New Chair of the Board of the Atlantic Pilotage Authority

We are pleased to announce that on February 27, 2019, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, appointed Captain Robert Jack Gallagher as Chair of the Board of the Atlantic Pilotage Authority for a 5-year term.
Captain Gallagher of Halifax is a Master Mariner, who enjoyed a 22-year career with the Canadian Coast Guard, where he gained operational and management experience. For the past 19 years, Captain Gallagher has run an international maritime consulting practice based in Halifax, Hammurabi Consulting. The spectrum of work from this practice has included high level policy and legislation development, program management, auditing against international standards, development and delivery of bespoke training and operational level guidance. Captain Gallagher has been an adjunct instructor at the Center for Marine Simulation and a guest lecturer at several universities and maritime schools in Canada, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and the Philippines.
Following notice of his appointment, Captain Gallagher stated, “I look forward to the work ahead as we pursue common goals of providing a world class service and being an employer of choice.” The Chief Executive Officer of the Atlantic Pilotage Authority stated, “I am pleased with the Minister’s appointment of Captain Gallagher as the new Chair of the Authority and my team and I look forward to receiving the benefit of his marine experience and oversight for the next 5 years.”
Captain Gallagher replaces L. Anne Galbraith, who was Chair of the Board from February 2015 until February 2019. The Authority thanks Ms. Galbraith for her leadership as Chair over these past 4 years and wishes her well in her future endeavours.
